“Around the World in 180 Days”
9th Grade Geography
Class Description: This class will be broken into seven sections, with one continent studied in each section. Each section will include the study of geography (map work), religion, culture, current events, and some history. Each section will include class lecture, homework (research, small projects, some reading), class discussion, and a quiz. Research and discussion will be guided, and we will build on research and note taking skills throughout the year. One research paper per semester will also be assigned. A special research and writing workshop will take place in September.
Required Materials:
Each student will need the following:
-“Around the World in 180 Days” student work book by Sherrie Payne
-a 1 inch three-ring binder
-7 tabbed dividers
Grades:
Grades for the following will be taken:
-Notebook projects (1-3 assigned per section)
-Homework questions/class discussions
-Quizzes (1 per section)
-Research papers (1 per semester)
